CIC*** & ** Winners

Daisy Dick - Winner of the CIC*** class at Barbury

World class shone through at Barbury with 2008 Olympic Team Bronze Medallist Daisy Dick claiming that all-important individual top-honour which has thus far eluded her much to the delight of the Barbury crowd.

Daisy, riding her consistent partner Spring Along, made steady progress up the leaderboard with a clear in the show jumping.  Just one second over the optimum time on Capt. Mark Phillips's cross coutnry was good enough to win the 2009 St James's Place Barbury title.

New Zealand's Andrew Nicholson was second with Bramham winner Nereo while rising Irish star Sam Watson was third with Horseware Bushman.  Both joined Nicola Wilson to become the first riders to make the cross country optimum time at Barbury.

Sarah_CohenNo Jesting for Sarah in CIC** Section B

The first of two CIC** sections saw an exciting finish, albeit in miserable weather conditions. It was a win for Sarah “Cutty” Cohen with Angela Tucker, Fran Morgan and Miles Cohen’s Irish Jester. Sarah is only recently back in the saddle after becoming a mum to Alfie and Sarah showed she's back to her best form.

Sarah was second to Australia’s Brook Staples and DHI Vitesse after dressage but the more experienced Irish Jester was faster across country for just 10.4 time penalties to take the victory. It was experience which also showed in second place for Matthew Wright and his veteran partner, Park Pilot, back on form after break who finished on 54.1. Just 0.6 of a penalty behind was Oliver Townend with the Ratcliffe’s ODT Kings Jasper for third.

Flying Performance from Piggy takes CIC** Section C

Piggy French continued her successful season with an emphatic victory in the second of Barbury International’s CIC** sections with Flying Machine. Lying equal fifth after dressage, she gained one place on the leader board after a clear round in the show jumping to move up on the top two after two phases, Emily Parker and Treefers, first, and Clayton Fredericks and Bendigo III. On Mark Phillips’ cross country, Piggy was fantastic with the horse enjoying his first run since finishing ninth in the CCI** at Houghton Hall in May for just 1.6 time faults – one of the quickest of the day. Emily Parker was slower, some 20 seconds over the optimum time of 4:52 to incur 7.6 penalties which relegated them to third while 6.8 added penalties maintained second for Clayton. Julie Tew (Lord of the Owls) and Harry Meade (Wild Lone) made significant gains up the leader board with good show jumping and cross country performances to come from 11th and 16th respectively for fourth and fifth.

From Racing to Riches for William in the ROR Championship

WFP

A clear round secured £1500 for William Fox-Pitt in the climax of the Retraining of Racehorses Championship in the main arena when the top ten from Saturday’s section came forward for a final show jumping round. Riding Corofin Flyer for Charlotte Huber Percy and Teresa Stopford Sackville, William showed the crowds why he has a reputation as one of the coolest riders around to hold his nerve and ease a clear from the 10 year old bay gelding. On Saturday, the combination added nothing to a dressage of 27.3 – the only to post a sub-30 score and were justifiable winners on the day.
