The Barbury Team

Nigel Bunter - Chairman

Nigel Bunter 2

Nigel has been a racehorse owner since 1998 and bought Barbury Castle Estate in 2003. As the estate owner he is wholly responsible for the direction and future viability of the estate including the farming and equestrian businesses.

A discussion with David Green, the Australian Olympic Event rider and near neighbour, started Nigel thinking about eventing. That was in 2004 and by July 2005 Barbury had hosted its first event – an international CIC*** with the worlds top riders competing over the old gallops and downland. Since then, the horse trials have gone from strength to strength and in 2008 will host one of the final runs of the British Olympic Eventing team prior to their departure to Beijing.

David Green - Competition Director

Winner of a team gold medal in Eventing for Australia at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, David works closely with Captain Mark Phillips to design challenging cross-country courses at all levels for both the riders and the horses.

David’s family love the countryside round Wiltshire and what makes it a real dream for him – both as an eventing trainer and in his role as Competition Director, is that it offers the terrain and ground conditions which are perfect for training competition horses. David’s yard has become the first choice for the Australian Eventing team when they come over to the UK and it also provides him with a great base from which to train other up and coming riders.

Chris Musgrave - Event Director

He has been associated with the Marlborough Downs for nearly twenty five years and prior to Nigel Bunter buying Barbury Castle, Chris helped run the ‘Marlborough Cup’ for the previous owners.
